Trauma Management through Body Awareness
Awareness is the first step to any recovery and is a crucial component when releasing trauma from the human body. Combining Somatic Therapy techniques, yoga and body awareness meditation can be the catalyst for amazing healing for those with a history of trauma.
It has been an honor working with the power of healing on physical, mental and spiritual levels and the addition of Somatic Therapist training continues to deepen the expertise, understanding and offerings of Living Balance to those experiencing the bodily effects of trauma.
"Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a short-term naturalistic approach to the resolution and healing of trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It is based upon the observation that wild prey animals, though threatened routinely, are rarely traumatized. Animals in the wild utilize innate mechanisms to regulate and discharge the high levels of energy arousal associated with defensive survival behaviors. These mechanisms provide animals with a built-in 'immunity' to trauma that enables them to return to normal in the aftermath of highly 'charged' life-threatening experiences."
It has been a life changing experience to be part of the healing team at both The Elizabeth Fry Society and NOW Canada. Women are being deeply affected by the expert support and trauma management being offered. Body awareness and Yoga therapy can be experienced in group settings at the Elizabeth Fry Society or on a private basis by contacting Living Balance.
"The key for trauma victims is becoming reacquainted with a simple natural law. What goes up must come down. When we can trust the arousal cycle and are able to flow with it, the healing of trauma will begin." --Peter Levine Waking the Tiger.
